THE VALLEY, Anguilla, July 23 —————Almost two dozen primary school students have been brushing up on their reading skills at a workshop organised by the Soroptimist Club of Anguilla.
The reading workshop has been running each summer holiday for the past sixteen years. Soroptimist members including Stella Horsford conducted this year’s workshop for the past two and a half weeks.
Speaking at the closing ceremony on Wednesday, Horsford thanked the children and their parents for their attendance and also the club members who assisted her.
She also commended personnel in the Education Department and Jackie Connor for their co-operation and assistance. Horsford congratulated the students for their good behaviour, regular and punctual attendance and excellent co-operation.
The programme is geared to improving the reading and comprehension skills of chidren who are leaving the primary school and moving to Campus B of the Albena Lake Hodge Comprehensive School.
Horsford wished them well in their new school and urged them to remember good manners, show respect, to be good listeners and to work quietly.
She urged the children to continue reading throughout the holidays as reading is the foundation of all subjects.
