THE VALLEY, Anguilla, July 22 ———-Anguilla police are warning residents to be on the lookout for the latest money scam. According to law enforcement officials this latest scam involves mail passing through the post office.
Inspector Paul Sinclair of the Drugs and Firearms Task Force told reporters here this week that if persons know they did not enter any sweepstakes and later replied to the letter they are in fact participating in a scam.
Sinclair is cautioning members of the public not to divulge personal information to requests from persons who they do not know especially over the phone or in letters, faxes and or emails.
According to the British police officer this latest scam is purportedly based in East London, United Kingdom and offers persons a percentage of forty five million pounds.
Individuals in Anguilla have been receiving this mail through their mailboxes and addresed to them personally making the scam seem more realistic.
Meanwhile, Police are also conducting investigations into the alleged misuse of public office by a former government employee working in the Department of Inland Revenue.
While few details were released to the media hereĀ police officials were able to say that the person – a male was being investigated for alleged corruption and misuse of office.
