House Speaker attends parliamentary conference in Trinidad

THE VALLEY, Anguilla, July 23 ——–Anguilla’s first ever female Speaker of the House of Assembly  Barbara Webster-Bourne is attending the 35th annual Regional Conference  of the Caribbean, Americas and Atlantic Region Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA) in Port-of-Spain, Trinidad.

The conference, which runs from July 25 to 31, is being held under the theme ‘Modernization of Caribbean Parliaments: Forging our own Identity.’

Webster-Bourne, who replaced David Carty as Speaker of the Anguilla House of Assembly following the February 15 general election, is expected to speak on the topic ‘Providing a platform for innovative leadership within the parliamentary system.’

While in Trinidad the island’s House Speaker will also participate in the 3rd Conference of Women Parliamentarians.
