High court judge dishes out sentences

THE VALLEY, Anguilla, June 2 ——-Anguilla’s resident High Court judge Guyana-born Justice Louise Blenman on Tuesday handed down prison sentences ranging from two to 13 years; with some sentences to run concurrently.

Jennifer Mussington of South Hill pleaded guilty in the High Court to one count of robbery and was given a two year jail term at Her Majesty’s Prison in the Valley.

Juan Carlos Cabrera, also of South Hill, pleaded guilty to one count of robbery. Justice Blenman sentenced Cabrera to four years in prison.

Vernon Webster of East End pleaded guilty to three counts, one of robbery, one possession of a firearm and possession of ammunitions. He was given a term of seven years imprisonment on one count, 2 years imprisonment on another count and one year in jail for the third count. The sentences will run concurrently.

On June1st,  2010 Lisandro Samuel of South Hill pleaded in the High court guilty before Justice  Blenman on four counts of Burglary, he was given a term of  6 years imprisonment on two counts , five ( 5 )years imprisonment on one count and 2 years imprisonment on the other count. His sentences will  run concurrently.

In the Magistrate’s Court — fines totaling almost 18 thousand EC dollars were levied on persons charged and brought before the court for driving offences – namely driving without due care and attention and not being covered by an insurance policy.
