Cub Scouts back home after trip to Curacao

THE VALLEY, Anguilla, July 23————Anguilla’s contingent to the Caribbean Cuboree in Curacao returned to the island  on Thursday. The twenty one Cub Scouts that formed part of the thirty man contingent returned to Anguilla  as the Incredible Super Cubs  from Jungle City, after eight days of camping and participating in challenging but exciting activities.

Some of the highlights of the Cuboree were the March through Otrabanda and Punda, the Games and Sports Days, Shopping Day, Sailing in the Harbour, The Cultural Show and Cultural Market, Fox Hunt, island Tour and the Closing Party.

At the Closing Ceremony on  Wednesdayevening, all Cub Scouts were commended by the Cuboree Director  Ms. Magda Blanken for their high level of participation in the Cuboree activities and they received a special Baloo award.

Fifteen hundred Cub Scouts from Antigua and Barbuda, Aruba, Bonaire, , Barbados, British Virgin Islands, Grenada, St. Lucia, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Suriname, trindad and Tobago , Anguilla and host Curacao were in attendance. With a high level of excitement and energy Suriname accepted the mantle to be host for the 13th Caribbean Cuboree slated for the Summer of 2013.

However, after all the excitement and energy that pervaded the closing ceremony on Wednesday evening , the  Cuboree awoke on Thursday morning the  to  very the sad news of the death of the Cuboree Director Ms. Magda Blanken who lost her life tragically in a vehicular accident in the early hours of Thursday morning.

The Cub Scouts of Anguilla express sincere gratitude to First Caribbean International Bank, Anguilla Electricity Company and Lime for financial assistance in enabling the Cub Scouts to attend Cuboree and to Tall Boy and the Crew of Diamond One for Sea and ground transportation to and from St. Martin/ St Maarten.
